The RSS Monster

RSS Feeds are eating me alive! Help! My Google Reader is crammed full of delicious morsels that I hesitate to shove down the "delete all" garbage disposal, but I am being gobbled up by all of the tidbits of wisdom and am entirely devoid of any motivation to comment on what I read. ARRRGGGHHH! Any ideas on how to manage this nightmare?

Hear me growl...yes, I am right there with you!

I have attempted to read a few a day. I have also learned which ones I like...and, shhh, which ones I don't mind deleting. That knowledge, though, came after spending some time with my Google Reader.

Okay, in summary, the answer might be time...uh, oh, now who has time for time?

My suggestion: for sanity's sake, it's sometimes healthy to MARK ALL READ and start with a clean slate!

Gillmore's right, pruning your Reader to keep only the ones you really like can also help. Another trick is to utilize folders. Categorizing the feeds into folders (English teachers, technology, best practices, current events...) can help you manage the reading. I have an English teacher folder and sometimes spend a quick ten minutes looking at only those posts.

It can be daunting. My own Reader--how I found your post--is currently stuffed as well! It does make us realize how big the world is and what an important skill it is for us to teach our own students strategies for handling the information overload--that is when we figure out the strategies ourselves! :)
